Road Safety: Who pays the ultimate price?

<< Previous | Next >>

Today's economic climate has had major impact upon all road users - from local authorities failing to fix pot holes to businesses failing to maintain the safety of vehicles on our roads.

What are the implications from the Government's cost cutting? Given that 1 in 3 car journeys are work related, from my company point of view we have to make sure that vehicles, immaterial of ownership, are fit for purpose. Running a vehicle is expensive, yet safety must remain a top priority. Who will pay the ultimate cost of making sure that the safety of employees and other road users are adhered to?

Businesses dependent upon using our road network are already struggling to cope with the upwardly spiralling costs of having a workforce on the road. Regular maintenance is often delayed and repairs put off and with the possibility of further regulation to the MOT test together, to me spell disaster! If a vehicle has a maintenance contract the risks could be reduced.
